Hi all,
This query links into a query posted on this forum a few days back. I wrote this query on that threat but got no responses. I repeat it here: On the W-7, would 'd' or 'e' be the correct category for H4 applying for an ITIN? I see from the IRS that they make a distinction between spouse and dependents (assuming children), so that the former fall under 'e' and the latter under 'd'.

Do assist with this clarification!!

Thanks!!

Raajii :)

If you are applying ITIN for your H4 spouse then check "e", you also have to enter your name and SSN in the space provided on the form next to d and e options.

You have to send the W7 with notarized copies of your wife's passport or original passport and the completed-signed Tax return 1040 to Austin TX address mentioned on the January 2007 version of W7 form (http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw7.pdf).

Once IRS processes the W7 and assigns your wife the ITIN, then they will enter the ITIN on the 1040 form and forward it to the appropriate center for Tax return processing.

I am not a Tax Consultant, so it would be in your best interest to call IRS and talk to them directly if you have questions or concerns.

Hi
Thx for this reply. We contacted the local IRS and they have given the same advise as you. If it is for a H4 spouse, you tick 'e'. The dependent category refers to other dependents like 'children'.
