Documentary Requirements for H-4 and L-2 Visas
The spouse and unmarried minor children under age 21 of an applicant for H or L visas may also be classified as non-immigrants in order to accompany or join the principal applicant. A person who has received a visa as the spouse or child of a temporary worker may not accept employment in the United States without separate authorization. Finally, in order for an L-2 or H-4 visa to be issued, the principal applicant (the holder of the H-1B or L-1 visa) must be able to show that he or she will be able to support his or her family in the United States. Although the principal applicant does not need to be present in India in order for a spouse and minor children to apply for visas, his/her presence often facilitates such applications.
Applicants MUST bring the following documents to the interview:

Passports of all individuals applying for a visa
Application Form OF-156
Copy of the principal applicant’s I-797 (INS Notice of Approval) and I-129 (Petition for Non-Immigrant Worker)
Copy of the principal applicant’s H-1B or L1 visa (if already issued)
Copy of the principal applicant’s Labor Certification
Copy of the principal applicant’s degree certificate
Copy of the principal applicant’s work experience letters
Copy of the principal applicant’s letter of offer from the US company
Marriage certificate (original and photocopy)
Marriage photographs
Birth Certificate for children (if applicable)
All 36 pages of the principal applicant’s passport (if not applying with principal applicant).
