hi,

I just wanna know that H4 visa holders are able to get Driving License or not as they can't get ID.

If somebody knows about it please help me with your information.

Yes H4 visa holders can get the drivers license. You may need to go to SSN Ofiice. Just tell them to give you a statement saying that you can't get SSN here. And show this document to DMV.

Thanks for ur reply.I still have confusion,I'v read on Sheela Murthy's(Attorney)legal advice forum that SS Office have not been provide any statement from 1March2002.Do u have any idea about it?If u do,please reply me.

hi shalu..u can get driver's license on h4...i'll tell u my exp.[in michigan]......first appeared in awritten test at secretary of state office....v. easy,qualify in that..u'll get one TIP[temporary instruction permit]after 1 month only u can go for the road test but not before that...max. is 6 months.once u pass in the road test go to the secretary of state office...submit your road test score alonwith other documents[min. 2]...in my case passport&my baby's birth certificate as she was born here.got my driver's license without any hassle.if u've any doubts u can always ask the secretary of state office for details...differs fromstate to statehope this inf. is useful .all the best

hey Rashmi,Thanks for giving me the information.I'm in Ca,i had taken appointment twice with DMV,but not yet get my driver's license cause they have prob with my h4 visa.anyway i'm gonna try for the last time,hoping that this time i'll be succeed.Thanks anyways.

What Prob with H4 ? if the prob is with H4 visa status there is no question trying multiple times..
Can you explain more on what excatly the prob is so other readers can take advantage for this information.

hi,

personnel of DMV office told me that for driver's license,they required social security no.which h4 visa holders can't get.they also told me that there is a new law which has been regulated in 1 week of march,2002,according to that for getting driver's license person should have SSN,but some state still providing without SSN such as Maryland.

i got my licence after march 2002 and thay didn't ask me for SSN,u need to show them pasport and VISA stamped on your passport and some 3 proofs of your present address,and if u can again try to get a SSN denial letter from there office that'd be good.wish u luck
