Is the process same for both extensions?

Hi All,

I need help in understanding the differrence between following two cases,

-Extension of vistor VISA
-Extension of I-94 while visitor VISA is valid for few more years.

Is the process of extension same in both the cases?

Early replies would be greatly appreciated.

There is no concept of extending visitor visa on passport. If one visa expires, you have to apply for new one.


-Extension of I-94 while visitor VISA is valid for few more years.

Extension of I-94 is nothing but extending duration of legal status in USA (while visitor is present in USA). For example, someone got 3 months in initial I-94 at POE. He/she can apply for extending the duration legal status by filing I-539 at USCIS. In general, in visitor visa status where initial I-94 has 6 months duration already, it's not recommanded to extend legal status unless it's really necessary (e.g. medical reason).
