My inlaws are attending visitor visa at chennai on 4th dec.
they do textile business. I sent all the documents from my side as mentioned in the path2usa.

My question is what kind of questions they ask to show myinlaws have a business. We got CA statement and bank statement. Do they ask for IT returns. They dont have any property on their name. what document they need to take?

THanks in advance.

Please note that the documents that your in-laws provide are of utmost importance. They need to take IT returns for the past 2-3 yrs to show that they are 'really' earning 'so and so' amount as mentioned in other documents. They can take electricity bills, ration card, bank pass book, any other documents on their name that prove their ties to India. They can also take family pictures of the members living in India. They should also take any licenses or certificates related to their business to show that they have been running this business for ‘so and so’ many years.

The documents sent by the sponsorer in USA are of least importance in the whole tourist visa process (based on my personal experience with my MIL). They only look at your documents to make sure that you are here in USA legally and that you are paying taxes regularly. But, for the visa officer to go this far to look at your documents, he should first be convinced of your in-laws intent to promptly return back to their home country. Each applicant MUST convince the visa officer that he/she will return back due to ‘so and so’ ties they have. The ‘ties’ can be social, economic, cultural, religious or a combination of these. Even if your in-laws do not have properties, they could still prove their ‘ties’ on different grounds (ex: all their other children living in India, having a good-running business that they can’t give up etc.)

One of the questions that are being asked to businessmen is ‘who will take care of your business/shop when you are in USA’? If it is a joint business with your uncles, your father can say that his brothers will take care of the business. If it is solely owned by your father, he should come up with a proper answer. He should never express that he is closing the business for a few months while he tours USA – this gives a wrong impression that he is closing the business to permanently settle in USA.

Ask your in-laws to properly organize all the documents. They can take the documents in 3 folders: 1) sponsor documents 2) mandatory documents from the applicants 3) support documents from the applicants.

Good luck!!
