Hi,

My mom has her interview on dec 14th in chennai. I am sponsoring her visa. She is taking help of a travel agent(known to us very well) in taking the appoinment

and other help. I would be grateful if somebody answers my following questions.

Background info:

She is working in a central govt. undertaking organization retiring next year in july. My dad is not travelling due to personal reasons and he has a small
consultancy business . My mom has decent bank balance around 1lak, but we sent money during this year to my mom's account to buy some property till this

month(november) which is in 5,6 laks range every 2/3 months and now also her bank balance will be little over 10 laks due to the money we sent to buy property.

My general concerns:

1. Should my mom get bank account verification letter from her bank w/o mentioning the money we sent her or is it ok as the money has been distributed throught

out the year to buy my property?

2. In affidavit, should she mention about my dad not coming or his business or is it ok if she mentions only the property under her name (she has a house and

couple of land documents?)

3. I have given her power of attorney to buy some documents. should she also carry that and mention in that affidavit?

I have few concerns/issues regarding DS-156:

1. My mom said the travel agent gave the DS156 completed (partially) when taking an appoinment. Is it necessary.

2. Also I went through the scanned copy and found few errors. What do I do now?
3. Question # 8 & 9. My mom changed her first and last name according to numerology(some 15 years back) so should she mention that in the DS 156 where

they have asked for other surnames used and other first and middle names used. But the passport is in her changed name.
4. Question # 22. when do you intend to arrive in the US, should it match the date in NOC and leave certificate?(she has taken NOC from december but the intended date has been filled as jan 27 2007)
5. Question # 27. purpose of your trip: To visit my daughters family and toursim(this is her reply) Is it ok?
6. Question # 28. who will pay for your trip: Self and daughter(this is her reply) should it be changed only to daughter?
7. She need not fill DS-157 as she is above 55. Am I correct?

Thanks
GV

1. Should my mom get bank account verification letter from her bank w/o mentioning the money we sent her or is it ok as the money has been distributed throught out the year to buy my property?

Get bank statement for 6 months. bank don't have to know whose money it is.

2. In affidavit, should she mention about my dad not coming or his business or is it ok if she mentions only the property under her name (she has a house and couple of land documents?)

You can ask your dad to sign the affidavit. he can mention that he is sending her to tour US and she will be back in few months.....and why he is not going with her.
For land, cash and other properties in her name, get a CA report.

3. I have given her power of attorney to buy some documents. should she also carry that and mention in that affidavit?

dont know what kind of docs are those. hope you get more help from other members.

DS-156 is a required document and it should be completed fully.

2. Also I went through the scanned copy and found few errors. What do I do now?

Edit them asap. you wont be able to edit them if the interview is in 2 days.

3. Question # 8 & 9. My mom changed her first and last name according to numerology(some 15 years back) so should she mention that in the DS 156 where

they have asked for other surnames used and other first and middle names used. But the passport is in her changed name.

mention all the name as it appears in her passport.

4. Question # 22. when do you intend to arrive in the US, should it match the date in NOC and leave certificate?

Yes.

5. Question # 27. purpose of your trip: To visit my daughters family and toursim

Yes.

6. Question # 28. who will pay for your trip: Self and daughter

Yes.

7. She need not fill DS-157 as she is above 55. Am I correct?

Yes.

Thanks Saisai for your responses.

In your responses, is it necessary to get a letter from my dad?

Thanks

I dont think it is necessary(mandatory), but when my mom went for her visa my dad gave an affidavit for her return. VO did not see any such docs. prepare her well with anwers for questions like where is ur son/daughter living? how long you want to visit? when did they go to US? when did you last meet them? read others exp. too.

Thanks Saisai for your quick reply!

I have one more question abt. property affidavit. Who is authorized to prepare such a document.
Should I ask my mom to go to a Chartered Accountant with all the papers and prepare a document or Should she herself prepare and get it notarized(if there is any such concept in india)

I can answer this question of yours. We prepared the 'property document' ourselves and had my parents sign at the bottom and notorize it. We did the same exercise for my MIL's property affidavit too. It doesn't have to be prepared by a CA or tax auditor.

Thanks Jaya for responding.
I have one more question though. My father is not accompanying my mother due to personal reasons(diabetic and he has a sister to take care of and he is not that interested to come now and says may be later) and he has a small consultancy business. Normally I heard that they ask questions if mother is traveling. How do you think my mother should handle the question of why father is not going with her?
How would my mom include my fathers details in affidavit. Is it necessary at all. Bcos my mom as an individual has a bank balance of around 3L and 2 plots and good PF amount . So is there a need to include my fathers business in affidavit at all(she has no connection in his business as she is still working in central govt)

Thanks

In this scenario, since your father is not travelling, I think preparing an affidavit just on your mother's name will be enough. Also, looks like she has 'enough' properties. (In my parent's case, most of everything is on my father's name and only a few things on my mom's name hence we combined everything together - also they attended the interview and travelled together).

Hi Jaya,
Can you please post your MIL's visa interview details in the success stories thread ? It would be helpful for others who are in the same situation as your MIL if you give info like - what questions were asked, how your MIL answered, was it an english or regional lang interview etc..

Thanks

Hi Jingles,

I have already typed up the message right after her appt so that I will not forget the content. I was actually waiting on receiving her passport so that I could also write the length of visa. But, I will post the thread tomorrow without waiting for her passport so that others with interviews this week/next week will benefit.
