Why DESI's PUT ON ACCENT?

Why do desi's put on accent? is that really required ? I know of a joke where the husband went to US and the wife put on an accent back in Bombay!!!

Why are we so obsessed with the american accent ? do you think it is necessary in work place to put on an accent? most of the times I feel the guys who put on accent look very fake and race towards what we all call ABCDism..

What do you guys say ?

For the person who norammly face the americans its OK to put on the accent , reason being commication is the key to success, if it helps them to commicate well its fine.
However, for the people around him/her is trying to do that, its kind of funny. Like you gave an example.

i guess the accent helps you blend in the culture and society of the country you're living in be it the work place or socializing with americans.

i picked up accents even when i travelled within india and europe ( where i've travelled ).

so i guess its nothing to do with the US in particular !!!

I've had to put in Marathi accents when doing my engineering in Pune , curb my natural Hindi accent when working in Bangalore, so how is this any different?

And why should it matter to anybody what accent you talk in as long as it is understandable? Or maybe we just look for opportunities to be able to judge people based on their attitude and accent and dress etc. etc.

If you are not disturbed by Americans' accent, you should not be disturbed by Indians'. Just live with it.
