hi everybody, we have applied for a translator for the visiting visa interview at the chennai embassy. would u be able to tell me how it would be for the interview with a translator? would there be the american officer askin the queries which woudl be translated to us( the name suggests so, still..)? or wil it be an indian officer askin teh queries himself ?

Mostly you will meet an Indian officer who can understand and talk to you in the laguage you chose.

There could be three possibilities:
1. It could be a Indian translator - who listens to the VO's questions (which is whispered to the translator). The translator will ask the question aloud to the applicant and then translate the answer in English for the VO (which is loud again). The applicant can hear the translator translating the answer to the VO.
2. Or it could be possible that the American VO could be talking in the regional language - Tamil, telugu etc.
3. It could be an Indian visa officer, talking in the regional language.

yes it does..thanks for those immediate responses..! and it is surprising to hear that itt could be american v.o in indian languages ...but i hope the interview wil go smoothly even if it is so for mom!
