My Parents are appearing for visa interview at chennai in March. The surname spelling in my fathers passport is slightly different than the surname spelling in my passport.

Surname in my passport: ralapalli
Surname in my fathers passport: rallapally

Will this be any problem at the consulate. Do I need to ask my father to get the surname corrected in the local passport office as they are in india.

Any suggestions would be greatly helpful to me.

Since there is ample time remaining before the interview, I would suggest that the surname be same in your and father's passport.

But there are other factors to be taken into consideration like:

1. What is the actual surname in all of your dad's documents?
2. What is the surname in your documents other than passport?

If the surname is actually Ralapalli, and dad's passport only has the wrong info, it would be safe and best to get the surname in the passport changed. Why to take chances knowingly and invite trouble!

Its absolutely fine to have different surnames especially in chennai consulate as they are well aware of the south indian name confusion where the first name and last name of the family members are different. So you dont need to do anything.
