Just wanted to share my Mom's experience with you. This forum has been a great help.
My Mom had a Visa appointment(Telugu) on 16th Oct at Chennai Consulate and She got 10 years Multiple Entry visa.
She had her interview at 9:45 a.m, She was inside the consulate by 9:15. After the security check, she was asked to submit the documents at a counter. The person in the counter took the DS 156, DS 157, HDFC Receipts, Passport, Invitation letter from Son-in-law, Letter to consulate from son-in-law and Visa Issuance DD(Rs.2400). He gave back these documents in a folder along with the other Folders(Applicant's and Sponsor's).
My Mom was taken to the Interview counter where there was an interpreter. She gave the folder that has the DS 156, 157, Invitation letter, Sponsor Letter, Passport and DD FOR Rs.2400. The VO was an Indian lady.
Here is how the conversation went:
Mom: Good Morning
VO: Good Morning, How are you?
Mom: Fine
1. Are you going to visit your son?
Ans: No, I am Visiting my daughter, My son works in Hyderabad.
2. What do you do?
Ans: I am a Govt. Employee
3. How much is your salary?
Ans: XXX per Month
4. Did your son-in-law send any papers?

Ans: Works as XXX at XXX
6. Can you show me papers?
Ans: Letter from Employer and pay stubs.
7. What does your husband do?
Ans: Retired Govt Employee
8. Is your leave granted?
Ans: Yes, showed NOC and leave sanction letter.
VO gave all the documents back except the Application Forms, passport and DD.
9. I am giving you visa but make sure to come back within 6 months
Ans: Okay
After the interview, she was not asked to goto another counter to pay the Fee since the DD has already been taken along with the Application forms.
I emailed the list of questions to my brother and he went through them with my mother. I sent the documents 10 days before the interview and my brother explained my Mom Which document is What. She said she was really comfortable on the day of the interview.
Appreciate everyone posting their experiences on this Forum.
Good Luck.
