Hi,

Both my husband & I work and we are planning to invite my parents.
My husband earns more than me and has some stock in his name(not joint)

I have a few questions on some of the forms.

DS 156-Can we write both of our names as sponsors or is it better if I write my name only

I-134 - Can we write joint income in the income field and the whole stock value(even though some of it is not a joint account and is under my husband's name) or is it better for us to send 2 separate I-134s which show each of our incomes & stocks.

Thanks!

1. Only one person should sponsor.
2. Put the joint household income, and stock or any other investment info( not very important though).
Key thing is Cash BankBalance, and household income.

Thanks Murali.

The only reason I had a doubt whether we can put in both of our incomes & stock combined is that the doc mentions "I derive an annual income of,I have stocks and bonds " etc and was not sure if we can put joint details there.

As Murali has mentioned, stocks do not add much value to the sponsorship. Liquid cash to pay for the trip is the only thing that is important, of course, along with a decent salary to bear your parents expenses. Only one person can sponsor.

In my case, I put my 'individual' salary in I134, 'joint' bank account balance, property value of our house owned by both of us. I put zero for stocks though I have some on my name and some in joint account. I didn't see any importance of them and avoided them completely (I was lazy to get account verification letters from each stock brokerage).

If you are planning to send employment letter and pay stubs from your husband's employer, then it may be okay to put combined household income. I wish others with dual incomes respond to you..

If we are planning to show joint bank balance, do I need to sent all the docs - pay stub, w-2 etc for both of us ?
Or jsut hte bank statements for boht of us is sufficient ?

I believe that more is most effective in this case. It does not hurt to prepare the documentation for this case.

In my case, where both me and my wife are working...

1. In the DS-156, under "Who is Sponsoring your trip" I had mentioned "son" followed by my name.

2. We prepared two affidavits for each applicant, one for myself and another for my wife. So we had two I-134s, one from me and one from my wife, for my father. Same for my mother.

3. In the I-134, each of us put our own salaries (not joint income). I had my own account and also a joint account with my wife. Hence I put the value followed by "joint account" in brackets. Same for stocks.

3. We sent Employment Verification letters, Bank Account Verification letters,
both of our paystubs for last three years, both our W2s for the last three years, tax returns (combined) for the last three years.

Oops, I forgot to mention that we sent bank statements of both of us for the last three months.

The above said is not an exhaustive List. The above said is only on top of the usual documents mention in the "Requirements" section in path2usa website's Visitor Visa section.

I think you forgetting the fact that you are not applying for the visa...your parents are (or will be)...it is their qualifications that matter, not your salary or bank account.

Thanks for all the info.

So do you think instead of just putting joint income in 1 I-134 its better to prepare 2 I-134s one from me & one from my husband stating individual salaries?
We are planning to send employment letters, bank statements and everything from both of us.

Yes, thats how I did it. I guess it makes it a clean presentation instead of all the confusion
