Hi,
I'm planning to bring my parents to US. One the required documentation for their visa is the Child's Original Date of Birth Certificate.
Unfortuantely, I don't have a Date of Birth Certificate.
Does anyone know if I can apply for it at an Indian Embassy/Consulate in US
or do I need to go around those Municipal Offices back in India?
Or are there any consulting services in India whom we can pay them so that they can get the certificate for us?

You can not apply for a birth certificate at Indian Embassy in USA. You can ask your father to go to local Muncipal office to apply for it.

I have a similar question. The Birth Certificate is here with me in the USA, is it required that my parents should show the original birth Certificate or the xerox copy of the same will do ?
Please reply ASAP - Thanks,

Chetan,
Don't risk sending any original documents by mail.
I only sent a xerox copy of my birth certificate.

I checked the Indian Embassy at San Francisco and they are providing Birth Certificates for a fee of USD 20. I think we can use this facility to get the Birth Certificate.

Thank you for the information. I was under a wrong impression that we can not apply for birth certificates in USA. Thank you for letting everyone know. Good luck with your quest!!

Yes, you can get a Birth Certificate from your local Indian Embassy. Please check their websites. But I think it takes a few days.
