Visa Validity

My parents recently got a 10 yr multiple entry visa. Is there any restriction on when they can make their first trip? I was told by a friend that the first trip needs to be be within 3 months of the visa issue else the visa becomes invalid. Is that true?

they can travel any time before the visa expiry date.

They don't have to travel within 3 months of the visa issuance. They can travel anytime during the 10yr validity period.
