Getting visitor visa for taking NBDE is not going to be easy to prove that you are going back to your home country after your exams. Also, your dad a perm. resident of USA is not going to help you much.
I suggest you to enroll in some college and get F1 visa and later you can complete these exams while pursuing your college degree.

Good Luck!

thnx for replying! i think u didnt know abt this exam very well. problem with this exam is that it only be taken in usa n canada.n this exam is the requirement to get in to any dental school or college for further postgraduate studies in usa.colleges dont consider any application without nbde 1 scores.hope u have understood my problem tht i cant apply for student visa.
.now plz advice me wht shd i do in this situation? i also want to add one thing tht my both elder brothers r usa citizens by birth n so these things add negative points to my chances of getting visa bz they will consider me that i never come back.although my mother n little sis is over here.wht documents will be necessary for me in ur opnion?
eagerly waiting for ur reply...takecare

ayesha,

I don't know much abt. NBDE but I am aware of USMLE exams(medicine). What the doctors do is, they take some Masters program like MPH, MS....and apply for F1 visa. They come to US and continue studying Masters and simultaneously complete their USMLE part1,2&3.
It is very difficult to get visas for writing USMLE in US.
I guess the same thing applies to your NBDE too.
Hope you get more help.
GL!

The best thing for you is to select some program for Masters and try to get F1. You can complete the exams while in US. Remember, you need to maintain your F1 status all the time. meaning, you should also be attending your classes regularly while you prepare and complete those exams. You can quit the Masters program once you get admission for your dental program.

 hi thnx for replying.nbde exams r nt like usmle ,getting admission into masters programme require both nbde 1 n 2 scores,or if somebody wants to do dds(doctor of dental surgery)tht is equivalent of our bds, requires only nbde 1 scores.hope u now uderstood whole problem with this .so getting admission in ms programme ,not possible.nw plz tell me what is the best way to get visa in this situation. thnx again

It might help, in that case, if you take with you paperwork that clearly states that the exam can only be written in the US.
Registering for the exam and showing a receipt for that might be helpful too.

If asked about your family, I'm afraid, you have no option but to let them know your dad is a green card holder and residing in the US.
I would say the key here is to very thoroughly prepare your professional paperwork.
Good luck!

Hi Ayesha

I understand your situation. If the exams cannot be taken in India then you have 2 options:

1. Apply for visitor visa and then take your exams in the US. (Check out the comments posted by other folks in the forum who have tried to come to US on a visitors visa for taking USMLE ) --- csingh's advice.

2. Or apply for some M.S in dental sciences program (that requires only a TOEFL and GRE) and once you arrive in the US take the NBDE exams.

The odds of you getting a student visa are higher than a visitor visa based on your profile.

FYI while in school, there was this dentist guy who came here on student visa (Masters in Public health program) and took the exams and the interview and got into Tufts Dental School.

End of the Day, it’s your call.

Good Luck

1) what shd i write in ,period of stay in usa?(i want to stay for 2 months ,is tht ok?)

Yes. 2 months is fine.

2)wht documents r necessary?is their any need to show fathers n brothers passport copies or their social security no?to show them tht they r living legally

You never know what they ask. Carry all the docs. If your dad is not sponsoring your trip there is no need to carry his passport copy. but again, it is always good to keep all these docs with you.

3)wht wil be the best reply to vo questions like, "tht proove me tht u will come back "? or strong ties etc.

well this is something you need to prepare on your own. you need to prove the career prospects in India after completing your Masters in USA.

ayesha,
it is always better to show funds in US as your dad lives in US. Somebody has to sponsor your trip since you are a student. sponsoring includes meeting other living costs such as clothing, travel, food, accommodation, books etc...
