Birth Certificate of Sponsor Child

Path2usa says that for sponsoring parent's visitor visa, original birth certificate of the sponsor child ( son or daughter) is required. I don't have a birth certificate and haven't been able to get one despite trying a lot. Is it really required?

Not all consulate ask for it, but mumbai cosnulate do ask for it often.
Try to get it becuase today of tomrrow you will need the Birth certififcate.
