joining new job on H1B

My new H1B petition is approved from Oct-2006. Currently I am in USA on L1. Can I join and start working in new company from first week of october?
1. Can my old company cancel my L1 after resignation ?
2. If my old company asked to leave before Oct, Can I stay in US till Oct and join the new company?

Any one know or having such experience, I will be helpful.

Yes you can if the H1 sponsoring company keeps on payrol from Oct 1st.
Also if it is a Change of status type filing I797(C), Else you have to go to home country and get the H1 stamp and re-enter. Check with your H1 employer whether the H1 filing was as Change of status from L1 to H1.
From Oct 1st your status will be H1 so if your L1 employer cancel the L1 let him do( he wont do, because it will cost him).
If your company ask to leave before Oct 1st it may be difficult, consualt with your H1 employer's legal advisor who filed the H1 for you he can help.

One thing u take into consideration is that whether you need new visa H1 B stamp.
