I stay in Illinois, My new 2000 Toyota camry was hit by a car on the side door & the other car person ran off. The damage was not much. Only the driver side rear door got deformed. The police came & gave a report.
Took it to my Toyota dealers body shop & they replaced the full rear door with a new 2000 camry door, buffed etc & my car looks brand new now.
My question is:
Will this be mentioned against my car vechile history that i had an accident or will it be mentioned in the CarFax report? Does that mean that my car selling value will decrease although it has been fully fixed? Any way to avoid that.
Please advice.

Chairu,

SURE it will be in the history of the car and 100% sure the market value of the car has gone down even thought the parts are OEM and totally new....

Let me make it clear.

First, The moment the COP wrote a report the record has got entered into the DMV.

Second, the dealer would have billed the cost of fixing with your insurnace and hence it is on your Insurance history (though it is not your fault).

Third, if you have charged on your insurance don't change your insurance for the next 3 years or else the record will be on your insurance for the next 5 years!.

Finally, CarFax and other similar agencies get the info from insurance agents, DMV... so you have no go Buddy!

You might ask why should the cost of the car depreciate even though all the parts were replaced new and by the dealer .... I would ask if you were a buyer of a used car won't you mind about the history of the car/driver?
