You may consider doing through mail, in california it takes 5-10 business days to get it back.

I think password renewal through mail is a good idea. I got my passport renewed few months back by mail through Consulate General in Sansfrancisco. I got it in 2 weeks. Otherwise, it is a pain in neck to get passport renewed in India. In case, you want to go ahead with it, dont forget to take a copy of your original passport. Also, refer relevent consulate website for other information.

Hi,

My passport Expires on 21st october 2007.

I am planning to renew my passport , when do i have to apply for that , is there any time prior constraint for that like with in 6 months of expiry date or some thing like that .

Do we have to send them self addressed stamped envelope or is it ok if we sent a Money Order for 55 Dollars is sufficient.

Can anybody let me know at the earliest .

Thanks,

Roby.

I recently got my wife's passport renewed from California, in the new passport they typed my wife's name in wrong order in Given names. They typed it as "Middle Name" "First Name" instead of other way.

I then sent them request to change it. Today I got the passport but it only has an endorsement (or Observation) on inner page saying Given Names has been changed to "First Name" "Middle Name". On front page it still shows it in wrong order. Will this be a problem while leaving/entering USA/India. Will we have to everytime tell them to look inside for correct name for next 10 yrs.

Thanks,
HP

From a friend's experience, it's a pain every time you enter US. He didn't have much trouble getting back in India. :D

Could somebody let me know what is the eligible period before we apply for a passport renewal. I just got to check that my passport expires in march 08 and hardly have 6 months left on it.

Also, I have to add my wife;s name in the passport for spouse, what are documents to be submitted.

Please advise.

Thanks in Advance

Hi,
Just need an important information regarding the re-issuance of the passport (Getting the new passport after the first one expires). My earlier PP got expired on 24-09-2007 & I had applied for the re-issuance of the passport, in which one has to send the original old passport as per the requirements, which I also did. Now I have received the new passport, with the old passport number mentioned in the reference section. However, the older passport didn't arrive with it. I thought that after the re-issuance, they send both the passport (the new and old one) attached to each other. Plz tell me, if I was wrong and its normal to receive only the new passport.

If this is the case, then how can one have the visa stamped on the older passport. e.g. my H1 visa was still valid till Jul'08 and was stamped on the older passport, but now with only new passport to see, How can the immigration officers or the other concerned persons will know abt my visa details. I do have photo copy of my earlier passport.

PS : I got the passport re-issued from India (Bareilly), as I'm currently in India.

Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

Thx in Advance.

Yes you should have got the old passport with the valid visa back, attached to the new passport. Just endorsing the old passport number in the new one isn't sufficient to get you past Immigration.
I'd suggest you get in touch with the office where you applied for your new passport ASAP and try to get your old passport back.
Good luck!
