I have a camcorder which records in NTSC format. I am planning to take this to India. So, I need one thing to be clarified.

Do I have to buy a NTSC to PAL converter? or will the following work?

I record something in 8mm cassette using the camcorder (NTSC format). Then, I connect the output of the camcorder (video and audio lines) to the input lines of the VCR and play the cassette in camcorder + hit the record button in the VCR (normal big cassette). Will this record the normal cassette in PAL format???

Thanks for your help

Most of the new TVs and VCRs in India can take both PAL and NTSE as input. One of my friend took a NTSE camcorder and he is able to connect it to TV. So if you have a latest TV or VCR you may not need a converter.

suresh,
what so many people on this message board have said ,is quiet correct.the new tv in india support both formats.so you can directly plug in your camcorder and view the recording.
we had gone to the bahamas island recently and we wanted to send a cassette to india.
so we recorded the whole thing on the 8mm camcorder cassette and then recorded it on a video cassette in the same way as you mentioned but that is also in a ntsc format.so we went upto a indian store and they made a pal copy of the cassette the rates vary from 8 to 11.you can negotiate a little, they provide you with the cassette too!!
