Visitor visa granted for 6mths..wat will be the duration of i94

My in-laws were granted visitor visa for 6mths. my mother-in-law will be coming this month end for a period of five months.

1.How long will they give the I94...is it usually given till the expiry of visa as its only for 6mths or will I94 be given even for a shorter term....... we will book the return tickets sometime in the end of dec and her visa is expiring on jan 5th. is it okay?

2.When can they apply for visa again as they plan to come again next year?

My mom-in-laws visa is expiring on jan 5th. We hav booked the return ticket on Jan 3rd.
Someone told me that I94 might be given for abt three months also as the term of visa is only 6mths. So we were a bit worried abt this whether to change the tickets to open tickets or to retain the existing tickets.

So just wanted to confirm if they will issue I94 till the date of return tickets or will they issue it for a lesser period irrespective of the date of return ticket?
