Praveen,
If you have brought a player from fry's, Best Buy or some other store then there are very fair chances that it does not work.
This DVD player will play DVD from America only and the output is in NTSC and if you have a Multi System TV in India then you can view them. India has PAL video system and the two systems are not inter-compatible. A Multisystem TV can play both.
If you buy DVDs, VCDs from India then this system is of no use.... To give more info the Globe is divided into many regions and US is in Region 1 whereas India is in region 6 or 7. The DVD players will read the area code before it plays and a DVD from India will not be playable in these systems and the video systems are different.
However there are some Code-Free DVD players available in most of the Desi shops and these systems not only play DVDs from all regions the work on 110V or 220V, but the output will be either PAL or NTSC... there are another kind of players which are called Conversion players (slightly expensive) and they read in any format and play in any format.
