Hi,
We are going to India next month and plan to take few electronics items like Dvd player,Car stereo,car dvd player with monitor etc. Also few Solar garden lamps.Do we have to pay high duty? will taking these things be worth after paying duty?Please share your experience and Tips. We will also be carrying our ofiice as well as personal laptops which we will bring back to US.Will there be customs issues for this?
Ur suggestions wud be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
There is a two way FRS radio available in Outpost.com Columbia: FRS22-SPR-2 .This is actually free after rebate. Just wanted to know whether this will work in India? Also is it dutyable ?

They usually let go if you have 2 or 3 items at the most. But they mark your bags all over in customs if they think you are carrying expensive or too many electronic goods. Laptops shouldn't be a problem as long as you are agreeing to bring them back to US. I am sure you must have got all those items on great discount. So in the worst case, just drop them in the trash if they charge you duty.

The custom allows upto Rs 10000 of stuff. usually perfumes clothes and all that small stuff they dont include in the price but remember to carry receipts and you should be fine. Dont go and declare. if they ask then tell truthfully . Also i think new laws allow you to take one laptop without duty to india i am not sure but thats what the 2004 budget declared.
