Domestic US travel for infant

Hi there,

I have a question for my friend,

He has a one and half month baby born in US, he would like to know if he has to take a domestic travel in US from one city to other, would he needed a US passport for a baby ready in hands? He yet to do a passport for a baby.

Can a US born infant travel without a passport for the domestic journey?

The baby sure can travel within the United States. If I am not mistaken kids under a certain age ( my guess is 15 years) do not require a photo id. Just to be on the safer side the parents of the child may want to carry the baby's birth certificate to prove that it's their child ( for obvious reasons, of course).
