how to deal with customs in india?
I guess most of u must be aware of Green channel and Red channel..
You shouldn't have any problems if you go via the
red channel if your gifts exceed the customs limit; you should (voluntarily)go to the SBI counter there, pay the duty and get the receipt, also don't pay any bribes). Likewise, if your goods don't exceed the customs limit, you won't have problems if you walk through the green channel, but you can expect a customs check, so better to carry receipts of all the gifts you purchased to prove that the sum is less than the customs limit.
Overall, no reason to suspect hassles or problems from their end so long as there are no problems from our end.

If the reciept for an item (say handycam) is a gift coupon with no amount mentioned on it, will that item be duty free?

How to prove that some of the things that i am taking with me say for example a water filter (Brita) is not a gift and it is only for our use for our baby to the customes office in India. I am taking diapers, baby food etc for my baby. Diapers and baby food could be understandable by the customs officers. But how about water filters, pitcher's etc.
Also, i am going to take my cam-corder and my digital camera that i am using here. Is that considered as gift item and hence i have to provide a receipt?
