Hi. Is it true that in USA, over 80% of males are circumcised after their birth? I heard that this procedure is actually carried out for additional revenue for the hospitals but they rationalize it as a procedure carried out for health reasons. I also heard that while the women is admitted for delivery, they make her sign many forms and one of them is for the circumcision of her newly born male child.
I do not want my son to be circumcised. How do I ensure this? It would be very helpful if others who gave birth to a male child in USA share their experiences.

Couple of things;
1. While it is true that , hospitals do ask from parents and take their permission that whether the new baby boy should be circumcised Or not. It is your choice and Can say No for it.
2. It is also possible, that they may not verbally ask, but put it on paper along with all other bunch of papers, if you sign the paper basically you are agreeing to do the procedure. So read all the paper carefully, if don't understand any thing, ask the concern nurse/Physician before singing.
Since poples mind is occupied with Mom and her labor pain, they often do not pay proper attention to the hospital paperowork and sign the documents. My advise would be to pay proper attention to the papers before signing.

Thanks Murali. You have driven home the point that one should be extremely alert and careful.
A colleague of mine told me that his neigbour's 5 year old son was circumcised without their consent when they had admitted him for removing his tonsils. In fact their son underwent two circumcision operations in a succession.
I searched on the Net and the statistics of forced/without consent circumcisions are quite scary.
I request parents to post their experience and tell us how they saved their son from circumcision. A list of safe hospitals will also be helpful.

The statement that cirumcision keeps the organ clean is total hogwash and has no scientific basis. The only reason US hospitals do this is to make money

I think circumcise is good for the baby.
Why are you against circumcise? Is there any specific reason?:confused:

I think circumcise is good for the baby.
What is your basis for thinking it is good?

Couple of months after birth my son use to cry every time when ever he goes urine due to some infection in that area which is not clearly visible. After circumcise no issues.

There have been medical reasons too that have been proved for male circumcision. Recent reports also says that it also prevents AIDS to a certain extent hence thousands in Africa thronging for circumcision. Many religions also recommend doing so...
