My name is Swapna and I am 25 years old and I have a concern regarding pregnancy. We are planning on moving to India in a year or two and the concernn I have is, my husband's sister has a son who has downsyndrome.SO when I am pregnant I may have to undergo aminosynthesis. Is it better to have the baby here or is it not going to make a big difference having a baby here or in India. Are medical facilities better here or in India for such cases.
Thank you,
Swapna

I don't think it really matters whether you are here or in India when you have your baby. Medical facilities are pretty good in India too.
I don't have any first hand experience but I can tell you based on my friends' experiences; that they've had state of the art medical care during their pregnancies in India, including tests for Down's syndrome.
Maybe some members of this forum who've had kids can chip in with their experiences to help you make up your mind.:)

Having the baby here helps. the benefit wud be baby gets citizenship automatically. apart from that its not much different having in india or here.

If you are ready to pay you'll get all sort of medical facilities even in India. Giving birth to your child in US will ensure the child getting a US citizenship but remember if you get your child to India for education you'll end up paying more fees than what normal Indian students pay.

Indian medical facilities are pretty good and so are US facilities. Whether you give birth here or in India it does not matter. The main thing is you need to teach yourself and learn some things and not rely on doctors. Dids you know that if you are planning to become pregnant taking Folic Acid tablets 2-3 months before conceiving can reduce the risk of down syndrome ? So I will say forst educate yourself and worry about medical facilities later.
