Does L2 cancel H1-b?

I am working in US on L1. My wife has H1-B stamped through an Indian company (Company-A).
But for some reason her company is not sending her to US. I learned from your site, that H1-B transfer from Company-A to Company-B is not possible until we enter US through Company-A.

So we are planning to apply for L2. My question is:
When she will get L2 stamped. Will her H1-B get canceled? If so, then she won't be able to come to US on H1-B through her Company-A if they decide to send her suddenly.

Basically we want to get L2 stamped and wait for couple of months to see if her company sends her on H1-B.

Thanks,
Nilesh

Thank You for building this nice site.

At one point of time only one US visa can be active,
So if you have any other type visa in your passport any previous visa stamp will be Voided.

The good news in your case is that she can still work on L2 visa though.

Thank You for a very quick responce.

I had the same impression. But thought of checking with you, because I have B1/B2 valid until 2009 and I also got L1 stamped. Both VISAs are valid simultaneously.

u can have multiple valid visa stampings but SINGLE status in the USA. Status in the US is determined by I94

Now this confuses me. Again going back to first question. Can my wife get L2 stamped in addition to current H1-B stamping and then come to US on any one of these? It's true that whatever VISA she will use while entering US and getting I94; will be her status in the US.

yes this is possible - however the consulate may cancel the old visa with a stamp
"cancelled without prejudice" in which case u wld have only 1 valid visa to travel and enter the US.
