View Full Version : I have GC and I am getting married.
I already have GC and now I am getting married to someone who is in India. I have heard that it takes years to get GC/visa for your spouse in such cases :( . I want to know if that is true. If yes then can anybody suggest any workaround??
Yes it true..
Your spouse can't get GC immidiately. Also no Dependent visa also.
Only working(h1b etc ...) visa OR a visitor visa (for short term)may help to bring her to USA...

Despite your GC, You can use your "unexpired"
H1-B to file for her H4. If this is not more than
3 years, you can renew your H1-B for next 3 years
again and have her stay with you. She can get
her GC status meanwhile. Yes, its legal.

Chetan:
Thanks for the info. I am running into the same situation. I got my green card approval. Planning to go to India to get married. I have my second H-1 valid till July 2003. Trying to find options to see how I can get my spouse quicker rather than waiting for 5 years through normal channel.
Can you elaborate on legality of getting her on H-4 still while your H-1 is valid.
Thanks
