All,

First of all - this site is really good and informative. Many thanks to pepole managing this site as well as all participants....

My company is about to initiate L1-A visa processing for myself. I hold Singapore passport. I have few questions:

1. I am told that if I move on L1-A, labor certification won't be necessary when I later applied for Green card? Is that true? If so, what would be the approximate time lapse between start working in US and getting GC at Calirofnia?

2. How long does L1 processing takes?

3. I plan to move first and my family join later. Would there be any issue if we get the visas for all of us but my family join later?

4. Are there any caveats / gotchas that I should watch out for during L1 processing? For e.g. during visa interview at consulate etc?

5. Would there be any issue if I do my short term business travel while L1 is in process?

Many thanks for all help/pointers in advance.

I have few answers for your questions:
1. It is true that L1A holder need not go for labour certification. But the GC processing time as per people's saying approximately 1 year.

2. L1 A processing time depends on how fast your company provides you all the papers. The shortest time would be 1 week to collect all the papers. visa processing is same as any other visa process times, may be a day or two.

3. There are absolutely no problems if your family joins you later.

4. Some time they have the tendency to hold visa and issue 221g letter, and may ask you to send answers for a 14 questiaire sheet which is meant for high tech workers/scientists. That is not a problem.

Hi Susnithakiran,

Thanks for your replies. Hope someone can help answer for #5 also (i.e. is there any problem travelling to US on existing B1 visa while L1 is under process).
