L1 to H1 Transfer -- urgent

I am in L1B status for the last four and half years. My five year term in L1 expires in October 16 th 2006. If I file my H1 in April ‘2006 and got it approved by October 2006,

Am I eligible to stay for another six years? If yes, do I need to go back to my home country and get it stamped?

Or

Do i need to go back within in one year?

the H1B 6 year term includes time spent on l1 visa . l1 to h1 is subject to cap
so u can only get abt 1 year plus on h1.
If u havent' stayed 366 consecutive days outside the US then u cannot get a fresh 6 year term. Please consult ur company attorney for more info.
