My in-laws had an appointment at Chennai yesterday for their visitor visa. They called us last night and said that they got the visa but the consulate gave them a list of questions and asked them to email the answers within a week. It appears they took their passports and the DDs for visa issuance fee.
I am a little confused here! What is this list of questions?? According to what I understood the questions seem to be a standard list and had to do mostly with my FILs job. It was in the middle of the night that we received this call and I am not sure whether the consulate asked them to email the answers or post them!
Long question short, do you guys think they got the visa? Has anybody had this experience before? I'll come to know more details tomorrow, but in the mean time if anyone has any input it'll be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hey,
Even, my in-laws have got a questionnaire to fill and send it through mail.
I think it's a common trend for the persons, working at defence related organizations. He works for DRDL and the questions talk about his work mostly. He has sent the mail to them and waiting for their response. They have taken DDs and Passports from them too. They have appeared for the interview on 01-Feb-2006. It happned with some of his colleagues too. And it may take 4 to 6 weeks to get it processed. As of our knowledge goes, three of his colleagues got the Visa after this process.
Hope that helps.
Please write, if you get more info on this.
Thanks,
Naga.

Hey Naga,

Thanks for the response. Great coincidence, my FIL works for DRDL as well. Are you from Hyderabad?

Well thats what my in-laws told us, that a few of my FIL's colleagues were handed those questionnaires too. Hopefully they all will get their visas soon. Did your in-laws send the response by email or postal mail?

I'll post more details once I find out, keep in touch.

Thanks!

Here are some of the details:

Their visa was refused under section 221(g). It's not an outright rejection, but a refusal to approve the visa right away due to a need of further documentation. They are given a standard questionnaire with around 15 questions and were asked to email the answers to the consulate. This looks like a standard procedure for all the people who work in defense related jobs. They also asked for a resume of my father-in-law. It was mentioned on the form that it will take upto four weeks to process their applications after they receive the email with the answers.

Naga, any update on your in-laws' case?

Thanks!
