Hi,

I am sponsoring the B1/B2 Visa for my mother. I have already booked appointment. After that I got a guideline document which says My mother needs to produce son/doughter's original birth certificate(My Birth Certificate). I donot have birth certificate.

I inquired with couple of people some say it is not required and some say it may be required.

1. Has anybody sponsored their parents visa in Mumbai Consulate recently? Did they verify child's birth certificate?

2. Is it absolutely required to produce my birth certificate?

3. If I donot have birth certificate, Then is there any alternate document to produce one?

Per the vfs website the original birth cert is only a suggested document and not a mandatory document and in many cases not even seen by the interviewing officer.
u may provide any alternate proofs of birth (domicile cert, notarized copies of mark sheets etc)
